Solar airplane lands at Lunken Airport

The plane left St. Louis on Friday morning and landed at Lunken Airport by evening.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- The world's most advanced solar airplane made a stop right here in Cincinnati on Friday evening. The Solar Impulse is attempting a tour across America without using any fuel.

It arrived around 8:15 Friday night, and it was a smooth landing. This is the only plane in the world that can fly at night and during the day without any fuel.

"There is no benchmark so it's complete exploration and adventure," explained Bertrand Piccard, Solar Impulse pilot.

Bertrand Piccard is one of two Swiss pilots who are changing the way the world looks at aviation.

You may remember him for flying around the world in a hot air balloon, but flying a plane with a wingspan of a 747 that weighs as much as a small car? Piccard says that has its own challenges that include simulated landing training.

‘Animal House to Our House’ author visits Main Library

‘Animal House to Our House’ author visits Main Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - Most guys would buy the girl they liked candy, flowers, or even a ring. Award-winning writer Ron Tanner bought his girlfriend a house. That house would become the inspiration for his book “From Animal House to Our House: A Love Story.” Tanner will discuss this “love” story at the Main Library 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, in the Reading Garden Lounge.

In 1999 Tanner met Jill Eicher, and six months later the couple bought a nearly destroyed fraternity house in Baltimore's historic Charles Village. Together, they renovated the Victorian brownstone and, five years later, got married in the house. In 2008, their remarkable rehab work was featured in “This Old House” magazine  in a story titled "From Animal House to Our House." The work is ongoing and can be seen at their DIY website, Houselove.org.
