CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - From nature preserves and parkways, to regional and neighborhood parks, Cincinnati has a long and proud history of enhancing the quality of life through outdoor recreation. In keeping with this tradition, Cincinnati Parks, in partnership with ArtWorks and the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, is gathering community input on the design of a new carousel to be built at Smale Riverfront Park.

Through May 30, the Main Library is displaying selections from its historic postcard collection in A Place of Beauty, Health and Play: A History of Cincinnati Parks. This display features more than 60 images of 17 parks, including Ault, Eden, Lincoln, Mount Echo and Washington parks.   Images from the display can be viewed at http://cinlib.org/YIsCAq.

7,000 volunteers taking part in Cincinnati service blitz

OAKLEY, OH (FOX19)- Crossroads Community Church is hosting a city-wide service blitz in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Go Cincinnati, now in its 8th year, is a one-day community service event involving 7,000 volunteers.

The event covers everywhere from Middletown to Burlington to Cheviot to Amelia. Volunteers will take part in 400 projects, benefiting schools, churches, social agencies, neighborhoods and non-profit organizations.

Organizers say a total of 8,500 flowers and plants, 700 paint brushes, 500 yards of mulch and topsoil, 450 pieces of vinyl tile, 400 gallons of paint, 150 pieces of lumber and one paw paw tree has been gathered for the service blitz.

Go Cincinnati is scheduled for Saturday, May 18.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - For the fourth consecutive year, local Coldwell Banker West Shell offices contiunue their support for the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund.

The company sponsors a variety of events throughout the year including the Redlegs Run 5K and The Match Program.

“We are extremely proud of the program’s growth that now includes sixteen organizations all of which benefit from the Community Fund,” says Joe King president of Coldwell Banker West Shell.  “Our group of agents and managers are incredibly committed to making a difference in the community and take pride in our contributions.  They have willingly volunteered their time to ensure that Coldwell Banker West Shell representatives are at each and every game to provide food, prizes and fun games for the kids to play. “

The Redlegs Run 5K is scheduled for Saturday, June 1. This is the first year that Coldwell Banker West Shell has sponsored and entered the race.

 

 

Remke bigg's transferring prescriptions to Walgreen's

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- Remke bigg's has announced it is transferring all of its prescription business to Walgreens effective May 21, 2013.

"The pharmacy industry has changed to the point that there needed to be an investment into upgrading our systems to keep pace with the industry and to serve our customers at the level we felt was necessary to continue our legacy of exceptional service," said Remke bigg's CEO Bill Remke. "This investment would have distracted us from our main goal of delivering high quality, fresh food, local products and outstanding service."

Remke bigg's will continue to offer a professional butcher in every store, source produce locally when possible, and offer freshly made bakery, homemade deli selections and expanded organic offerings, health, beauty care and wellness products.

Remke bigg's prescription files will transfer to Walgreens May 21, 2013 with no interruption in service and care.

Fresh Market serving up cupcakes for a cause

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Fresh Market stores in the Tri State and nationwide will host a cupcake decorating contest on Saturday, May 18.

Customers will be able to purchase and decorate a delicious cupcake from The Fresh Market’s in-store bakeries for a donation of $3.

Fresh Market locations in the Cincinnati area include 3088 Madison Rd in Oakley and 7888 Montgomery Rd. across from Kenwood Towne Centre.

The Fresh Market will donate 100 percent of the money raised to No Kid Hungry to support its efforts to end childhood hunger in America by connecting kids in need with nutritious food and teaching their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals.
