Sycamore senior given YMCA 2013 Character Award

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati recently honored Claudia and Chuck Multer of Hamilton for their 42 plus years of volunteer service to the Y competitive swim teams. 

Over 250 people gathered at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza on May 5 for the first annual SPLASH awards, recognizing all stars in and behind the scenes of the Ys competitive swim programs.

Charlie Fry, 18,  a senior at Sycamore High School, won the 2013 Character Award; he has been an eight-year-member of the Blue Ash YMCA swim team.  In his nomination for the award, Fry was recognized for showing a high level of commitment to his team, and helping others stay positive. 

Jonathan Rutter, 16, from the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA was named Swimmer of the Year for outstanding performances throughout the recent swim season.

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Crews will be out in Sycamore Township for storm water culvert replacement from Monday, May 13 - Friday, May 17.

Kugler Mill Road at St. Claire Ave., which is located between Kenwood & Blue Ash Roads will be closed to traffic.

Hamilton County’s detour will be routed over Kenwood Rd. to Sycamore Rd. to Blue Ash Rd. and vice versa.

Boca set to open in former Maisonette space

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)-

Boca Restaurant is set to open in the former top-rated Maisonette space in downtown Cincinnati.

Boca was previously located in Oakley until it closed up shop on March 16. The restaurant serves Italian food 'with heart, elegance, and authenticity', according to their Twitter page.

The new Boca is set to open Monday, May 13 in the 114 E. 6th Street location.

The space's former tenant, The Maisonette, held the longest running streak of five-star awards for over 40 years.

Golfers hit the links for local Big Brothers Big Sisters

MADEIRA, OH (FOX19)- More than 200 golfers hit the links on Monday to benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati.

The golf outing was held at Kenwood Country Club in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the organization.

Following the 18 rounds, 1000 numbered balls were dropped from a crane in the 'TQL Golf Ball Drop for Kids'.  Prizes were awarded for a hole-in-one, closest to and furthers from a pin.

The Mercy Men also performed a post-golf concert. Attendees enjoyed food and drinks courtesy of Outback Steakhouse.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters program pairs adult mentors with children to serve as a positive role model.

Madisonville Education and Assistance Center wins Walmart contest

MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - Some local food banks won big in Walmart's Fighting Hunger Together initiative in April.

From April 1 to April 30, more than 443,000 votes were cast for the more than 300 eligible Feeding America food banks and partner agencies as part of a campaign to fight hunger in local communities.

The Brighton Center in Newport, Madisonville Education and Assistance Center and Inter Parish Ministry in Cincinnati each won $20,000 to help them fight hunger in our community.
