Two Sycamore students among top vote-getters in tree decorating contest

MONTGOMERY, OH (FOX19) - Sycamore High School student Mary Cole’s ‘Midnight Magic Tree’ caught the eye of the hundreds of people who attended the City of Montgomery’s Holiday in the Village event, which led to Cole capturing the win in the city’s Festival of Trees contest.

As part of the contest, a total of 12 trees submitted by local businesses, community members and volunteer groups were on display from late November to early December in three locations throughout the community: Ohio National Financial Services, Historic Universalist Church and Bethesda North Hospital.

Winners were then selected by event attendees who voted for their favorite tree at each location during the annual Holiday in the Village event.

Two of the three trees that garnered the most votes were created by Sycamore students: Cole’s tree at Ohio National Financial Services and James Bradley, a Maple Dale Elementary student, who had an Ohio State Buckeye-themed tree on display at Bethesda North.

The City of Montgomery then put the top three trees in a random drawing and Cole’s tree was selected as the winner.
