MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - The Village of Mariemont will hold a rededication ceremony on the front lawn of the Municipal building Friday, March 29 at 4pm.

The ceremony will honor Former Mariemont Chief of Police Col. Donald L. Shanks who served  for 33 years (1954-1987).

Moeller alum to judge inaugural 'Beards for our Brothers' contest

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The halls of Moeller High School are filled with students sporting a beard in the name of a good cause.

These scruffy-faced students are participating in the first-ever “Beards for our Brother” contest. The beard-growing contest culminates the month-long “March for Danny” – a campaign to raise awareness of aphasia, and funds for his continued treatment.

Danny O’Keefe, a 2002 Moeller alum, was seriously injured on May 6, 2011, protecting his sister from an attack by her ex-boyfriend. After suffering a brain injury – resulting from multiple stabs to the head, O’Keefe is slowly recuperating. He’s undergoing intensive speech, occupational, and physical therapy at the University of Michigan.

UC Blue Ash hosts 'Dental Days' for pets in need

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - Students in the Veterinary Technology program at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College are providing much-needed dental care for the pets of low-income families.

The ‘Dental Days’ program is part of a collaboration between the college and Pets in Need, a non-profit organization that provides income-qualified families with access to free or discounted veterinary care for their pets.

Along with helping families in need, the ‘Dental Days’ events give students in the Vet Tech program the opportunity to participate in providing teeth cleanings and teeth removal on dogs and cats that are brought in by their owners.

The Vet Tech program hosts up to four ‘Dental Days’ events each year and sophomore veterinary technology students also provide preventive medical care to Pets in Need patients throughout the school year.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) All local Jersey Mike’s restaurants will donate 100 percent of Wednesday's sales to help the Y help those who need it most in our community. 

“The money raised will provide scholarships to help kids learn how to swim, provide them with a healthy lunch, and help families achieve their health and wellness goals,” said YMCA of Greater Cincinnati President and Chief Executive Officer Sandy Walker.

The Month of Giving campaign in 2012 raised nearly $858,000 for 74 different charities nationwide.  “I would like to extend a personal invitation to come in and enjoy a Jersey Mike’s sub during our Month of Giving in support of your local YMCA,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO.  “The opportunities to give are all around us, so we hope this March, you will join us to make a difference in someone’s life.”

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Blue Ash Fire Department recently joined  Mason, Loveland/Symmes and Sharonville for a collaborative training at the Great Oaks Career Campus in Sharonville.

Together with Sycamore Township, the five departments make up the Northeast Fire Collaborative (NEFC), which is an agreement that joins emergency forces to provide safer fire ground operations, smarter business operations, and a sensible approach to meeting mandates all while providing fiscal responsibility to its communities.

Petition signing party opposing city's parking plan in Mt. Lookout Square

MOUNT LOOKOUT, OH (FOX19) - Mount Lookout Square businesses are hosting a drive-thru petition signing party Saturday, March 23 from 9am-5pm.

There will be volunteers in and around the square with ballots that you can sign.

Cincinnati City Council recently voted 5-4 to approve the parking lease and then voted 6-3 to make it an emergency so it would take affect immediately and not allow the voters to put it on the ballot.

Anyone wanting to sign the petition should note that you must be a registered voter and live within the Cincinnati city limits to sign.  This includes Mt. Lookout, Linwood, CT, Oakley, HP, etc but doesn't include Norwood, Anderson, Newtown, etc.

Nominations for top local teacher; winner receives $500 Kenwood mall gift card

KENWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Do you know a teacher who goes the extra mile every day?  Kenwood Towne Centre is seeking nominations for a top performing teacher in the community. 

The winning teacher will receive a $500 mall gift card on National Teacher’s Day, Tuesday, May 7.

“Celebrate Teachers! will recognize and showcase the dedication of our best educators.” said Cindy Hart, Marketing Manager.   “Teachers are shaping our future leaders and we want to recognize their hard work.  This program continues the mall’s commitment to local schools.”

Teachers can be nominated on the mall’s Facebook (www.facebook.com/KenwoodTowneCentre) page now until  April 3. Votes can be cast from April 16 – 28.

The teacher receiving the most votes on the mall’s Facebook page will receive a $500 mall gift card on National Teacher’s Day.
