Local author pens children's book about Cincinnati

OAKLEY, OH (FOX19) - A local author is set to debut a new book for children about Cincinnati.

Louise Borden will be at Blue Manatee bookstore in Oakley on Wednesday, October 17 to celebrate the official launch of Cincinnati – Our City, Our Story. Developed by the Cincinnati Storyteller’s Project, a sub-group of the volunteers of C-Change Class 7*, the book was created from a desire to evoke civic pride and family activity in the City of Cincinnati while promoting child literacy in the community.

The book launch happening between 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday was to life through a community collaboration of numerous dedicated generous local groups, businesses and individuals including local author Louise Borden.

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - A new park is set to open in Blue Ash with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, October 13. The public is invited to experience Summit Park with the ceremony beginning at noon.

The first amenities of Summit Park are already available for public use. Several rustic trails have been cut throughout the 130-acre park since Blue Ash took possession of the property last month. Many of these trails are mulched, while some remain natural.

"It has been a top priority of ours to create amenities as soon as possible so that our residents could quickly begin enjoying the park," said Mayor Mark Weber. "To have trails cut and usable in just the first month fulfills that promise."

MOUNT LOOKOUT, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) is kicking off a new program on Wednesday where the focus is conversation about the community over coffee.

New Executive Director, Gregory Johnson, will be going out to local coffee shops and holding a coffee hour to talk to people out in the community. 

A Coffee Conversationwill be held on Wednesday, October 10, at Lookout Joe's from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.  Everyone is invited out to ask him any questions about CMHA's future plans and how Mt. Lookout figures in those plans.

Mariemont Theatre signs agreement to begin major renovations

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - An announcement was made on Friday that will bring a major expansion and renovation to Mariemont Theatre.

Owners of the 74-year old movie theater signed an agreement with its landlord, Spinnenweber Builders, Inc. to expand the size of the current Mariemont Theatre by an additional 4,200 square feet. The expansion will include two new state-of-the-art auditoriums that will provide stadium style seating with luxury seats, digital projection and digital sound. 

The Theatre will also redevelop its lobby area with new restrooms and a new concession area. The lobby redevelopment will allow additional space for the sale of specialty concession items, such as gourmet coffees, deserts and menu selections to be provided by its neighbor, The Quarter Bistro. The plans also call for the Theatre to serve beer, wine and specialty drinks that can be enjoyed while viewing a film.

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - An official groundbreaking was held on Friday for Mariemont’s newest luxury condominium development, Nolen Park.

Greiwe Development and partners North American Properties and Sibcy Cline were present as the 27-unit building enters its third phase.

Nolen Park completes the vision of Mary Emery, founder of Mariemont. Emery imagined multi-family residences within blocks of the Village’s gathering place, Mariemont Village Square.

The two previous phases include sold-out Jordan Park, dedicated in 2008, and Emery Park, completed in late 2011 with 15 of its 31 units sold, and now Nolen Park with 12 units already sold.

Voting begins for Blue Ash Community Calendar contest

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - For several months the City of Blue Ash has collected photo entries for its 2013 printed community calendar which is mailed to 7,000-plus resident and business addresses.

On Wednessady, more than 60 calendar photo entries from over a dozen professional and aspiring photographers were uploaded to the City’s facebook page: www.facebook.com/BlueAshOhio.

Now through Friday, Oct. 12, people can vote for their favorite photos by “liking” them. Once the voting period is complete, the most popular photos will be considered for the 2013 Blue Ash Community Calendar. While no financial compensation will be offered to the winning photographers; the photographer submitting the winning cover photo will receive a Blue Ash Prize Pack.

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - Greiwe Development, along with partners North American Properties and Sibcy Cline, will break ground on Mariemont’s newest luxury condominium development, Nolen Park on Friday at 10 a.m.

The condos, named after the renowned Village planner, John Nolen, is the third phase of a project that completes the vision of Mary Emery, founder of Mariemont.

Emery imagined multi-family residences within blocks of the Village’s gathering place, Mariemont Village Square. The two previous phases include sold-out Jordan Park, dedicated in 2008, and Emery Park, completed in late 2011 with 15 of its 31 units sold, and now the 27 - residence building Nolen Park with eight units already sold.

Friday's groundbreaking will kick off a weekend of events including a preview of the Nolen Park floor plans with CR Architecture + Design and lead project architect, Sari Lehtinen, and Greiwe Interiors designer, Judy Holland on Saturday, October 6 from 11am - 3pm.
