Picnic under the Stars at the Observatory

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Observatory is inviting the community to enjoy a picnic under the stars on Sunday.

The picnic is from 7 p.m.to 10 p.m. This is a free event but the Observatory suggests a donation of $5 dollars per person.

Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, games, and food and if the weather is clear, they show you the stars.  There will be safe solar viewing, tours of the historic buildings, then a guided star gaze after dark.

Recycle your old and used electronics for free in Hamilton County

HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District’s free residential computer equipment and television drop-off program will be open on Saturday, August 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the CSI/Republic Transfer Station located at 10751 Evendale Drive.

This program will not be open any other Saturday in August. 

Special weekend collection times are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following Saturdays:

  • August 11
  • September 8
  • October 13

Hamilton County residents can also drop-off their unwanted computer equipment/TVs Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through October 31, excluding holidays. Since the program opened on May 1, residents have recycled more than 68,000 pounds of electronic waste.

EVENDALE, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District (District) will be collecting computer equipment and televisions from Hamilton County residents on Saturday, July 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the CSI/Republic Transfer Station located at 10751 Evendale Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45241. This program will not be open any other Saturday in July. 

Special weekend collection times are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following Saturdays:

  • August 11
  • September 8
  • October 13

Hamilton County residents can also drop-off their unwanted computer equipment/TVs Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through October 31, excluding holidays. 

Residents must bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill in order to participate.

Main Library Hosts Series on Living in Harmony with the Environment

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Main Library’s Information & Reference Department is hosting a series of programs in partnership with area organizations that emphasize education, preservation, and community building to help our environment.

Partners include: the Central Ohio River Valley Local Foods Initiative, a grassroots effort to educate our community about the value of locally and sustainable grown food while connecting them with local growers/farmers and markets; Imago Earth Center, an ecological organization that works to create ways people can live in harmony with the environment; and Enright Ridge Urban Ecovillage, a community of people fostering a sustainable urban neighborhood that promotes social and economic well-being while contributing to preserving our planet.

Nation’s largest paddling event is here this week

 

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The three-day Ohio River Way Paddlefest is expected to draw more than 2,200 paddlers from 17 states, making it the nation’s largest paddling event.

The 11th annual event will be held Thursday Saturday on and along the Ohio River in Cincinnati.

This year’s Paddlefest ties into a wide menu of connected events.  "Paddlefest has become a floating pep rally for the Ohio River," said Brewster Rhoads, Paddlefest chair. "It's a wonderful way for people of all ages and skill levels to celebrate, promote and protect our region's most important natural resource."

Metro and Sierra Club Encourage Drivers to Dump the Pump, Ride Transit

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  – Metro and the Sierra Club are spreading the word about the benefits of riding public transportation in honor of Dump the Pump Day 2012.

Events in Cincinnati include:

  • A “random act of greenness” on Monday, June 18 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Anderson Kroger Fuel Center, 7580 Beechmont Ave. Metro and the Sierra Club will provide giveaways and encourage drivers to consider the bus as an alternative to driving every day.
  • Metro and the Sierra Club will have booths the 7th annual Paddlefest Kid’s Outdoor Adventure Expo at Coney Island on Thursday, June 21 from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Electronics Recycling Event at the UC Blue Ash College Farmers Market

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - UC Blue Ash is sponsoring an electronics recycling event at its Farmers Market on Thursday, June 28  from 3-6 p.m. 

Local electronics recycler 2trg will collect unwanted household electronic waste from the public for recycling.

Acceptable items include cables, CD-ROM drives, cellular phones, circuit boards, computer speakers, CPUs, CRT monitors, docking stations, DVD players, fax machines, hard drives, keyboards, laptops, LCD monitors, mainframes, mice, modems, PDAs, personal copiers, printers, processor chips, scanners, servers, speakers, tape and disc drives, telephones, televisions, terminals, and VCR players.  Appliances, light bulbs, batteries, ballasts, Freon-containing devices, floor copiers, and UC equipment will not be accepted.  A $10/item fee will be charged to recycle each CRT TV, CRT monitor, and LCD monitor.  A $20 cash fee will be charged to recycle each console TV and rear projection TV.
