Watch live as Mars Rover lands on Monday | Events
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Observatory is throwing a party in honor of the upcoming landing of the Mars Rover.
NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), carrying the Curiosity Rover will land early Monday, August 6 on the Red Planet. An elaborate landing mechanism will hopefully bring the car-size rover safely to the Martian soil at 1:31am EDT. After an eight-month journey, the landing will come down to “Seven Minutes of Terror” when an automated system of parachutes and retro-rockets will slow the spacecraft down from Mach 27 to zero in seven minutes.
The Observatory willstream the webcast from midnight on Sunday to 2 a.m. Monday morning and have viewing of the late night sky through the 1845 telescope (weather permitting).
No reservations required - $5/person suggested donation.
If you can not make it out to the party, tune in to: http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/ to watch it live.
