Connect Ohio classes at Public Library aim to connect everybody to the Internet

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Did you know that only 66% of Ohioans subscribe to an Internet service at home? Connect Ohio, in collaboration with the Ohio Broadband Task Force, is working to change that number by bringing the benefits of Internet access and knowledge to everyone in the state.

Connect Ohio has implemented a statewide training program, Every Citizen Online (ECO), in order to provide free computer training sessions at public libraries, community colleges, community organizations, and educational centers throughout Ohio. These sessions teach new users how to access the Internet and how to best utilize all the Internet has to offer, such as educational, health care, economic, and communication resources.

‘Check In @ Your Library’ during Teen Tech Week March 10-16

‘Check In @ Your Library’ during Teen Tech Week March 10-16

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The theme for this year’s Teen Tech Week™ (March 10-16) is “Check In @ Your Library!” It is an opportunity for the Public Library to throw open its physical and virtual doors to teens and showcase the outstanding technology we offer, from services such as online homework help to resources like e-books, e-music, e-audiobooks, and more.

Teens’ use of technology increased dramatically in recent years, yet more teens are doing this from home instead of the Library. The Pew Internet & American Life project found that 93% of teens go online, with many using social networking sites, finding news and information, sharing content they create, and looking for information on health. Teens need to know that the Library is a trusted resource for accessing information and that librarians are the experts who can help them develop the skills they need to use electronic resources effectively and efficiently.
