New Approach to Chronic Illness "Inventing Breakthroughs Day"

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - First-of-its-kind event is bringing doctors, patients, researchers, and advocacy groups to Cincinnati from around the country to revolutionize care for chronically ill young people.

Inventing Breakthroughs Day is hosted by the Collaborative Chronic Care Network, or C3N, and ImproveCareNow, a network of pediatric gastroenterologists collaborating to improve care and outcomes for children with Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis, two serious digestive disorders affecting young people. Participants at the event will engage in hands-on activities and learn about the latest advances in health information technology and interactive healthcare tools.

"We're harnessing the collective energy and intelligence of patients, clinicians and researchers in much more coordinated and effective ways than ever before," said Peter Margolis, MD, PhD, co-principal investigator for C3N.

Bengals receiver to hold camp for kids

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jordan Shipley recently announced the details for his inaugural Old Spice Jordan Shipley Football Camp. The Camp will be held Thursday and Friday, July 21st and July 22nd, 2011 at Sycamore High School from 9:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Jordan will be on site to direct camp activities and provide instruction. He will be joined by a selection of prep and collegiate coaches from the greater Cincinnati area. Camp is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14.

Campers will experience various stations, specializing in fundamental skills and the team concept of football.

SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - It’s finally the weekend and time to unwind and have some fun!  The Friday Night Grill Outs at Lake Isabella are the perfect place to do just that.  You can’t beat a tasty grilled meal with all the sides, live music on the dock and great company with friends and family!  The grill outs are sponsored by Bud Light Lime and go every Friday from May 27 through September 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Where to start?  Well, the grill out menu is something to brag about with specialty dinners ($9.25 per person) that include a choice of grilled strip steak, baby back ribs or grilled shrimp skewers with sides; beer battered cod fillet dinner ($8.75 per person); or grill out dinners ($8.00 per person) with choice of burgers, BBQ sandwich and chicken breast sandwich with sides. The kids ($3.95 for age 10 and under) also get a choice of burger or hotdog with sides.

National Home Builders Leader to Participate in 10th CiTiRAMA

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Robert F Nielsen, 2011 Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for CiTiRAMA® on Wednesday, June 1, 10 am, located at the Villages of Daybreak in Bond Hill. Nielsen will also officially kick-off National   Homeownership Month in the City of Cincinnati at the ceremony.

City officials, including Mayor Mark Mallory, along with HBA of Greater Cincinnati (HBA) President Rex Gordon and other dignitaries, will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony. The first CiTiRAMA®, produced by the City of Cincinnati and the HBA, was located at the Betts Longworth Historic District in 1996.  This year's CiTiRAMA® will be the 10th show produced by the HBA and the City of Cincinnati. It will serve as the City's signature event for National Homeownership Month.

LOVELAND, OH (FOX19 ) - The month of May is National Foster Care Appreciaition Month and Lighthouse Youth Services wants to show foster parents how much they are needed in our community. A banquet honoring foster parents is being held at Receptions in Loveland on Friday, May 6 at 6:30pm.

"While Lighthouse Youth Services appreciates the many caring foster parents it works with every day, this month provides an opportunity for us to show our gratitude with an event to let them know just how special they are," said Bob Mecum, president and CEO of Lighthouse.

More than 100 Lighthouse Youth Services foster parents will attend the event, while the more than 150 Lighthouse foster parents are being recognized for the contribution they make to the lives of hundreds of children in our region. They truly improve the lives of children and help to make the community a better place.

LOVELAND, OH (FOX19) - Whistle Stop Clay Works is now accepting registrations for Summer Clay Camps. 

Co-owner Kay Bolin O’Grady says “clay is an exciting and magical material.  Children ages 8 – 13 will have the opportunity to learn the art and craft of clay while having fun and exploring their creativity!”

“We offer patient encouragement and personal guidance”.  Classes are small, with a maximum of 12 students per class.  Students receive both group and individual instruction at their own level.
