Beech Acres Parenting Workshop Is On Managing Stress

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Managing family, work and other obligations can be challenging for parents. At the October Beech Acres Parenting Center ‘For the Love of Kids’ workshop, parents will learn how to understand their stress triggers and their responses to those triggers, and strategies for managing that stress so as to focus on being mindful about enjoying their day and their relationships.

The workshop will be from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday, October 22 at the Beech Acres Anderson campus (6881 Beechmont Ave; Cincinnati, Ohio 45230) and on Tuesday, October 23 at the Beech Acres West campus (3325 Glenmore Ave; Cincinnati, Ohio 45211)

Cost is $15 and pre-registration is required at www.beechacres.org/workshops. The workshop is approved for 1 CEU for Ohio Social Workers and Counselors.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - From the littlest ghost to the biggest ghoul, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is offering up a cauldron full of Halloween events at select branches starting Oct. 23 and running through Oct. 31. Some SPOOKtacular highlights are:

Fishing Derby at Stepping Stones in Indian Hill

INDIAN HILL, OH (FOX19) - Stepping Stones Adult Services program is holding a fishing tournament that is open to the public on Saturday, October 13 in Indian Hill.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the tournament runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A $50 dollar prize will be awarded for the biggest bass, blue gill and catfish. Bass and blue gill must be released back into the lake, but catfish can be kept, said tournament chair Karen Bruton of Mariemont.

The tournament is a fund raiser for the Adult Services program which provides social, recreational and daily living skills programs for adults with disabilities.

A lifeguard will be on duty at the lake. Picnic-style food including hot dogs, soft drinks, hot chocolate and coffee will be available, as well as a raffle.  

A summer tournament drew 33 entrants plus family and friends.

“We’re hoping to top that as people get out and enjoy the early fall weather,” said Bruton.

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - Have you ever wondered what life is like inside a fire house? Are you curious to see how the pros extinguish a blaze? Or maybe you’re just looking for a family-friendly, fun night out everyone can enjoy?

The Blue Ash Fire Dept. will host an open house from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Blue Ash North Fire Station (10647 Kenwood Road). A number of activities are planned for the occasion, which will give the public a chance to get to know the department better and promote the safety theme of “have two ways out.”

Station tours, a fire simulator where kids (complete in fire gear) put out a fire with a hose, an adult fire extinguisher and smoke house simulator will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. This will be followed by a rescue rope demonstration from 7 to 7:45 p.m.; a full live burn exhibit will close out the evening’s festivities.

Food will be provided courtesy of Skyline Chili’s Groesbeck location from 5 to 7 p.m.

CINCININATI, OH (FOX19) - Beech Acres Parenting Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting parents and caregivers in raising children who thrive, will be hosting a Discipline Solution Workshop for parents on October 9 (in its West campus) and October 11 (on its Anderson campus).

Attendees will learn how to stop nagging, pleading and punishing their child and how to have a more positive relationship instead.

Cincinnati Sports Club focuses on kid's health

FAIRFAX, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Sports Club is getting kids ready for their back-to-school season with fitness classes.

Kids Cardio, Boot Camp, and Yoga classes are all on the schedule, and the two age groups include children ages 5-8 and juniors ages 9-13. 

Classes are available Monday through Thursday and Saturday as well, they feature kickboxing, jump rope sessions, creative games and other activities.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is pleased to announce Katie Laur, award-winning bluegrass musician, will emcee the Library’s innaugural Storytelling in the Park event Sunday, Sept. 9, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Washington Park, downtown Cincinnati.

The free event features professional and amateur Ohio storytellers who will entertain the whole family.  Professional storytellers Harold and Jonatha Wright, Eric Wolf and Omope Carter Daboiku will bring their talents to the park.
