Northeast Fire Collaborative tackles child drowning issues

LOVELAND, OH (FOX19) – This is the time of year when people in general and kids in particular start to spend more tmie in and around swimming pool, ponds, and other bodies of water.

Loveland Deputy Fire Chief Billy Goldfeder has sent out this fairly comprehensive manual to preventing your child from drowning, and reducing the odds that a child drowns in your pool.

Child Drowning Season Information

The Spring has traditionally been celebrated across our beautiful greater Cincinnati area as the beginning of the summer season. This time of year means vacations and many families take their first dip in the backyard, neighborhood or community swimming pool. Many vacations or stay-cations revolve around water whether it is at the community pool, clubs, local beaches, or even water-parks.

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP (FOX19)- This Thursday, May 3rd at 7:30 p.m. the Sycamore girls varsity lacrosse team will play St. Ursula in a charity lacrosse game to support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

The game is at the Sycamore Jr. High stadium. Sycamore says they will “pack the stands in purple”.

A cancer survivor will speak about the disease and the organization. There will also be a raffle and food sales, with proceeds going to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health Mobile Mammography Unit offers women a screening mammogram in 15 minutes at a location convenient to their home or workplace, and it will be in several locations on the east side this month.

Even though it is a time saver, appointments are required and are available by calling 513-686-3300 or 1-855-PINK123 (1-855-746-5123).

Cincinnati Health Department buses Madisonville seniors to “Senior Smile Days”

 

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Health Department (CHD), in partnership with Madisonville Community Council, is providing dental services exclusively for senior residents of Madisonville as part of a pilot program called “Senior Smile Days”.  These services will be essential in removing the two major barriers seniors face in getting dental care: access to care and high cost.    

On Friday seniors are being bused to CHD’s Crest Smile Shoppe, located at 612 Rockdale Ave, where they will receive dental check-ups and emergency services from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.    

On two previous Fridays,  March 23 and 30, a total of 23 seniors from the St. Paul Village facility and the Madisonville community received dental services with transportation provided by Madisonville Community Center.

NEWTOWN, OH (FOX19) – Newtown-based Meridian Bioscience Thursday announced they have signed a new group purchasing agreement with the Premier healthcare alliance to offer illumigene® C. difficile and illumigene Group B Streptococcus to its members at specially negotiated pricing. Premier serves more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals and 81,000-plus other healthcare sites. This agreement allows Premier alliance facilities to implement rapid, sensitive molecular tests for C. difficile and Group B Streptococcus without individual negotiations.

Pub hosts head-shaving event to raise funds for kids with cancer

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - O’Bryon’s Irish Pub in O’Bryonville will host a St. Baldrick’s Foundation head-shaving event to raise funds and awareness for life-saving childhood cancer research on Thursday, March 29.

With a goal of raising $15,000, nearly 30 participants had registered as of Wednesday.  This event will be held in honor of St. Baldrick’s Honored Kid Eli W., diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at 2 years old, who is the son of a third-year medical student at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
