Local high school senior moving up in photo contest

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - A senior from Ursuline High School is making progress in her attempt to become one of ten weekly finalists in a contest from Fitness magazine that could lead to a trip to Hawaii or even put her on the cover of the magazine.

Annie Sabo is an 18-year-old from Montgomery.  Between Tuesday and Thursday, she has gone from ninth to fifth in votes from online readers, with three days left to go.

Readers vote based on online photos and essays from the contestants on their fitness programs.  Her photo almost looks as if were shot for a magazine cover, as she strikes an athletic pose, with a handful of tennis balls, plus a cute dog to throw them to.  Her essay is called "My Life is Fitness", and it tells how she got into shape after gaining weight during her sophomore year.

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - A senior at Ursuline High School is one of ten weekly finalists in a contest from Fitness magazine that could lead to a trip to Hawaii or even a cover photo on the magazine.

Annie Sabo is an 18-year-old from Montgomery.  Her photo looks like it was shot for a magazine cover, as she poses as if ready to spring into action, with a handful of tennis balls, plus a cute dog to throw them to.  Her essay is called "My Life is Fitness", and it tells how she got into shape after gaining some weight during her sophomore year. 

The magazine asked contestants to submit half a dozen photos of themselves, along with a biographical piece on their healthy lifestyle.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Rollergirls spent their Saturday in a blood drive at the Cincinnati Gardens in Bond Hill.

The aggressive roller derby women used the slogan, "are you tough enough."

Donors to the drive from 11 to 5 p.m. got a free pair pair of tickets to a Cincinnati Rollergirls match or a Cincinnati Commandoes indoor football game.

The blood is going to the Hoxworth Blood Center, the regional blood bank owned by UC. Hoxworth needs at least 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 volunteer platelet donors each day to keep up with the demands of Tri-State hospitals and their patients.

Benefit Concert for "Cancer Free Kids"

LOVELAND, OH (FOX19) - A benefit concert for the locally based pediatric cancer research alliance, "Cancer Free Kids" will be held Saturday, March 19, 7pm at Loveland Middle School. Numerous local bands will be playing and the star of MTV's "Taking the Stage", Carlton Totten, will be master of ceremonies for the evening. Admission is $5 dollars at the door and t-shirts will be sold, while supplies last.

This benefit was entirely organized by four area high school students. Rachel Stewart (Loveland High School), Savannah Glenn & Myla Gordo (New Richmond High School), and myself, Rachel McClure (Amelia High School) are all a part of a nine-month leadership development program known as Look to Clermont 20/20. This program is was created in hopes to "inform, educate, influence and create new leaders from a diverse cross section of high school students in Clermont County".

The Orange and White Game at St. Xavier High School scheduled; will raise money for Leukemia

(FOX19) - On April 2nd, Saint Ursula Academy, Ursuline Academy, Saint Xavier High School and Moeller High School will join forces for a first-of-its-kind event to raise money for leukemia research.

On April 2nd, 2011, the four schools will join forces to put on The Orange and White Game at St. Xavier High School.  But this game is no ordinary competition. The Orange and White Game is a fundraising event where students will switch roles.  Rival girls’ schools, Ursuline Academy and Saint Ursula Academy, will go head to head in a flag football game, with two teams composed of seniors from each school. The rival boys’ schools, Moeller High School and Saint Xavier High School, will act as the cheerleaders, competing and performing in the half time show.

National Kidney Foundation offers free health screening on World Kidney Day

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The National Kidney Foundation-Greater Cincinnati Region will offer a FREE kidney health screening to the community on World Kidney Day, Thursday March 10, 2011.  The screening will be held at Tryed Stone New Beginning Church (5550 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45237) from 10-4pm.

Since it is a targeted screening we are seeking participants who have risk factors of diabetes, hypertension or a family history of diabetes, hypertension or kidney disease. 

Participants will have access to many tests including blood glucose, blood pressure, Hemoglobin A1C, lipid panel, urine dipstick for protein, serum creatinine to measure how well kidneys filter blood and many more, all for FREE.

Prominent Cancer Researchers Gather in Cincinnati for First Pediatric Cancer Brain Symposium

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - International cancer research organizations will join forces to create the first ever “homerun cure” pediatric brain cancer symposium in the U.S. on March 18 and 19, at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

A collective effort two years in the making, the DIPG.org Pediatric Brain Cancer Symposium will convene with over 70 attendees from more than seven countries in pursuit of new strategies in pediatric brain cancer research – a cause that many experts believe will result in new opportunities for cures to all types of cancer, both adult and pediatric.
