Mercy Health hosts groundbreaking ceremony for Rookwood Medical Center

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A groundbreaking ceremony is being held on Tuesday morning for the new Mercy Health - Rookwood Medical Center.

Construction crews are ready to begin work  on the new 24/7 emergency department in the Rookwood area of Oakley. The new emergency department is the centerpiece of Mercy Health – Rookwood Medical Center, which will open in the third quarter of 2013.

The 24,000 square foot facility, located conveniently at the corner of Edwards Road and Williams Avenue near the on-ramp to Interstate 71 north, will also house physician offices to serve residents of Hyde Park, Mariemont, Mt. Lookout, Norwood and Oakley.

International artists to be featured at Melanoma Know More Fundraiser

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The annual “Beating the Melanoma Blues” fundraiser by Melanoma Know More moves to a new venue this season, Kenwood Country Club, on Thursday, August 9 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The event features live music performed by boogie piano blues artists from around the world, as well as a panel discussion on the latest advancements in melanoma research from experts at the University of Cincinnati.

“This is one of the most important fundraisers we hold throughout the year,” said Dr. Susan Kindel, president of Melanoma Know More. “Not only is it an evening of good music, it’s a time where we can share the good news of research advancements in the fight against melanoma.”

The panel discussion, to be held from 6:15 p.m.

Main Library Hosts Series on Living in Harmony with the Environment

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Main Library’s Information & Reference Department is hosting a series of programs in partnership with area organizations that emphasize education, preservation, and community building to help our environment.

Partners include: the Central Ohio River Valley Local Foods Initiative, a grassroots effort to educate our community about the value of locally and sustainable grown food while connecting them with local growers/farmers and markets; Imago Earth Center, an ecological organization that works to create ways people can live in harmony with the environment; and Enright Ridge Urban Ecovillage, a community of people fostering a sustainable urban neighborhood that promotes social and economic well-being while contributing to preserving our planet.

NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Mercy Health, which provides quality care with compassion in your neighborhood, will build a new freestanding Emergency Department in the Rookwood area of Cincinnati. The new emergency department is the centerpiece of Mercy Health – Rookwood Medical Center, which will open in the 3rd quarter of 2013. The Rookwood Medical Center is a department of The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health and the medical staff of The Jewish Hospital played a key role in the strategy behind its development.

The 24,000 square foot facility, located at the corner of Edwards Road and Williams Avenue near the on-ramp to Interstate 71 north, will also house physician offices and provide other medical services to serve residents of Hyde Park, Mariemont, Mt. Lookout, Norwood and Oakley.

Currently residents in the densely populated neighborhoods around Rookwood Commons need to travel downtown for emergency care.

KENWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Cancer patients undergoing treatment that causes hair loss can now receive free wigs at the newly opened American Cancer Society Wig Salon at The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health in Kenwood.

These wigs are available to patients regardless of whether they have undergone treatment at The Jewish Hospital.

In partnership with the American Cancer Society, and thanks in part to support from the David Wayne Fund, The Jewish Hospital is the host site for this mini wig salon. The American Cancer Society provides the high-quality synthetic and human hair wigs available at the salon through a variety of corporate and private sources.
