BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - When the Aviator girls’ volleyball team faces Mason on the court on Tuesday, they will be playing to eradicate breast cancer by raising donations for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
“Volley for the Cure” started at Sycamore High School in 2006 with Sarah McGrath, then captain of the SHS girls’ volleyball team and a champion for breast cancer research. The inaugural match against Loveland was a way for McGrath to honor a woman she admired who was battling breast cancer. Event attendance exceeded 1,000 fans and more than $4,000 was raised for breast cancer research.
Now, more than 26,800 Ohio volleyball players have participated in Volley for the Cure, donating more than $1 million to local Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliates.
