Seven cities and neighborhoods pass wellness resolutions

Seven cities and neighborhoods pass wellness resolutions

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Seven Hamilton County communities have passed WeTHRIVE! Community Wellness Resolutions in an effort to adopt healthy lifestyle initiatives and create healthier communities.  Each community recently received a mini-grant award as part of Hamilton County Public Health’s WeTHRIVE! initiative.

Communities implementing the resolutions commit to completing community health assessments and based on the assessment results, communities then develop action plans.  The plans include community health initiatives such as: enhancing parks, walking trails and shared-use agreements for safe and available physical activity; developing healthy food options; and reducing tobacco use.

The communities that have already adopted resolutions are:

Madisonville area workshop focuses on managing symptoms of diabetes

Madisonville area workshop focuses on managing symptoms of diabetes

MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - According to the Greater Cincinnati Community Health Status Survey, more than six in 10 adults in our region report they’ve been diagnosed with some kind of chronic condition.

Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio (COA) supports the Healthy-U program because older adults are more likely to be living with more than one chronic illness.  In 2009, the Surgeon General estimated that 50% of older Americans were living with at least two chronic health conditions (at least 80% had one).  Additionally, COA’s Strategic Plan focuses on meeting seniors’ needs of the future, including increasing and improving access to evidence-based wellness programs.

This program is an important step toward meeting that goal.

Healthy-U participants meet in small groups for six weeks. A group meeting is being held on Jan. 18 from 1-3:30pm at St.
