Jewish Hospital receives award for bacteria-fighting
SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Mercy Health reports that The Jewish Hospital has won the first place award in a multi-state quality competition for its efforts to reduce C. difficile infections among inpatients.
The Kenwood hospital received the award from the Quality-In-Sights® Hospital Incentive Program, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield’s award-winning program that aims to improve the quality of health care provided in the hospital setting.
Clostridium difficile (C. diff) is a bacterium that can cause symptoms ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon. Illness from C. difficile most commonly affects older adults in hospitals or in long term care facilities and typically occurs after use of antibiotic medications.
In recent years, C. difficile infections have become more frequent, more severe and more difficult to treat nationwide.
