BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The popular “Frankly Speaking About Cancer” national cancer education series will return to Greater Cincinnati this fall with five separate sessions covering five different cancer-related topics, hosted by Cancer Support Community – Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CSC).  Formerly known as The Wellness Community, CSC ensures that no one has to face cancer alone by providing free, professionally-facilitated programs of support, education and hope for people affected by cancer.  

The “Frankly Speaking About Cancer” series has been developed by Cancer Support Community/National and individual workshops are presented in cooperation with leading area health care professionals.  The topics and dates of upcoming workshops include:

The Wellness Community becomes Cancer Support Community on October 29

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The name is changing, but the mission remains the same:  to ensure no one in Greater Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky has to face cancer alone.   After the official unveiling  on October 29 at the non-profit cancer support agency’s annual fall fundraising gala, The Wellness Community of Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (TWC) will be known as Cancer Support Community – Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CSC). 

Everything other than the name will stay the same - especially the broad array of free programs offered at locations throughout the Tri-state to ensure that all people impacted by cancer have the opportunity to be empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.

The new name reestablishes a consistent identity with the local affiliate’s parent organization, which became Cancer Support Community in November 2009 following the merger of The Wellness Community–National and Gilda’s Clubs

Three TriHealth doctors earn medical management certification

MONTGOMERY, OH (FOX19) - Three doctors in leadership roles at TriHealth recently earned the status of Certified Physician Executive (CPE).  CPE status is awarded based on a candidate’s stature as a physician, educational achievements, medical management experience and completion of a four-day, skill building certification program. 

CPE certification indicates a candidate has reached a level of excellence within the medical management profession, with management education, knowledge and demonstrated skills, to effectively lead an organization. 

Michael A. Bain MD, CPE, FACEP is the Director of Emergency Medicine at TriHealth’s Bethesda Medical Center Arrow Springs in Lebanon and is employed by Qualified Emergency Specialists. He also serves as the Lead Informatics Physician for TriHealth.  Dr. Bain attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati and completed residency in emergency medicine at University of Cincinnati Hospital in 1990.

Shine a Light Lung Cancer Vigil is next Tuesday

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.  Lung Cancer Alliance and the Hope Warrior Sisters will be kicking off the month by hosting the Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Blue Ash Nature Park (Blue Ash Shelter). 

This will be a night of Hope and Inspiration, with personal stories from 2 Survivors. 

The guest speaker will be Dr. Susan Pinney, Professor of Environmental Health at the University of Cincinnati.  A call to action will be delivered by Nisa Natrakul, Manager of Advocacy Relations at Lung Cancer Alliance.

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - More than 3,000 P&G employees in over 10 cities around the globe will participate in the Global Carry Each Other 6K Walk for Water in an effort to raise awareness of the global water crisis and provide clean drinking water to save the lives of women and their families.

Holiday shopping benefit offers wine and chic

SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A holiday shopping and wine tasting event scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd will bring together various vendors to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.  The Sip and Shop Holiday Market will be held at Neal’s Design and Remodel in Symmes Township, and will include a wine tasting option, with wines from Obryan’s Wine & State Liquor Agency.   

For a $20 donation, patrons may sample 4 wine selections, or may sample 2 wines for a $10 donation.  The event’s shopping portion will include vendors selling jewelry, clothing, candles, food, art, crafts, and other miscellaneous gift items.  There will also be raffles and grab bags available. 

The Sip and Shop Holiday Market will benefit the fundraising efforts of members of Team Challenge Southwest Ohio, the half marathon training and fundraising program that benefits the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.  Participants in Team

Moeller, Elder and Pink Ribbon Girls join to fight breast cancer

CINCINNATI, October 4, 2011 – One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. At Archbishop Moeller High School, many mothers of football players have recently been diagnosed with this disease. This a personal cause for the Moeller Family. 

So Moeller is partnering with Elder High School and Pink Ribbon Girls to raise awareness and celebrate breast cancer awareness month. The Moeller-Elder football game on Friday, October 7, 7:30 PM, at Elder High School will be the first in a series of games during the season that will be used to promote breast cancer awareness. Tickets can be purchased during school hours at Moeller or Elder High Schools or by calling the Moeller Athletic Office at 791-1680, ext. 1100. 

“The football players will be wearing pink decals, wristbands, socks, tape, and whatever else pink they can find,” said Kim Hauck, athletics administrative assistant.
