Mariemont Library holds Earth Day plant swap April 20

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Green thumbs and beginning gardeners alike are invited to bring plant cuttings and divisions to share with fellow gardeners at the Mariemont Branch Library Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, for an Earth Day plant swap.

While you're at the library, be sure to check out its collection of books on topics such as annuals, perennials, heirloom vegetables, and landscaping. Visit www.cincinnatilibrary.org/booklists/?id=gardening.

Community Garden Program returns to Blue Ash

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The Community Garden Program at the City of Blue Ash’s historic Hunt House will celebrate its 5th year in 2013.

The concept was initiated by resident Ann Scranton and the City in 2009 to provide the opportunity for gardeners to exercise their green thumbs. Originally, there were only seven gardeners, but the successful program has expanded to over twenty-five gardeners in the past years.

MONTGOMERY, OH (FOX19) - The 'Building Doctors' will present  a free seminar on how to care for and maintain an old building on Thursday, November 1.  The event will be held at the historic Universalist Church downtown Montgomery (9478 Montgomery Road) beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The Montgomery Landmarks Commission and Montgomery Historic Preservation Association are collaborating to bring the "doctors" to Montgomery for a two day visit.  The Building Doctor program is an annual outreach effort of the Preservation Office of the Ohio Historical Society and this visit will mark the end of their 2012 series.

OAKLEY, OH (FOX19)  - Cooknee Euro Style Cabinets, a women-owned business and niche showroom of European-style frameless cabinets, has announced the relocation of its downtown 12th & Vine showroom to a new, larger space in Oakley’s growing retail district.

“I’m really excited about the new space,” states Julie Savchenko, owner.  “With the Millworks project right around the corner, Oakley’s investment into its streetscape and the surrounding complementary design businesses, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be here and more centrally located.”

Tour NKY and east side water gardens next Saturday

 

HARRISON, OH (FOX19) – The 2012 Pondarama Water Garden Tour for the east side and Northern Kentucky will happen this Saturday and Sunday.

The self-guided tour runs from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and includes ten places in 7 counties.

The first home on the tour is one in Boone County with a bog garden, which helps purify the water, linked by a 100 foot stream to a pond, with an outdoor kitchen next to the pond, a hot tub built into the landscaping, and a state-of-the-art chicken coop.  They will serve some food to visitors.  The next stop, in Dry Ridge, lets you watch fish from air chairs suspended from a tree. Subsequent stops are in Taylor Mill, Covington at a florist and garden center, Cold Spring, and Fort Thomas.  On the Ohio side, the tour has stops in New Richmond, Batavia, Anderson Township (with a fish cave), and Morrow.
