Sycamore Twp. Trustees meet tonight to talk about firefighters layoffs

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19)- Sycamore Township Trustees will meet Wednesday night to talk about potential layoffs in the fire department.

Township trustee Bruce Raabe says between 70-100 part-time firefighters and about 14 full-time positions could potentially be cut.

According to fire chief's plan, that would leave about 12 full-time firefighters on the job.

Raabe says no one wants to layoff workers but, the township just doesn't have the money to support that many firefighters since the state cut back on funding to local governments.

Sycamore Township Local 3907 President Kelby Thoreson has asked firefighters and the public to attend the meeting to speak out about the proposed cuts.

Wednesday night's meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at 8540 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- Metro's first five new "mini-hybrid" buses will go into service this week.

Despite its name, the new buses aren't so "mini" nor are they traditional hybrid buses. the 40-foot hybrids have an advanced thermal cooling system technology which will improve fuel economy up to 10%, reduce green house gas emissions and increase safety through the elimination of hydraulic fluid leaks.

Through the debut of the mini-hybrid, a cost savings of about $240,000 per bus compared to a traditional hybrid can be expected due to an advanced "electric" fan cooling system.

Metro has ordered more 40 more mini-hybrid buses, which will go into service in the next several months.
