CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A water main installation project on the eastside of Cincinnati will have a major street reduced to one lane.
Madison Road will be reduced to one lane between Ridge Road and Ibsen Avenue beginning Wednesday, July 18.
According to the Cincinnati Transportation and Engineering department, that lane only will be open to westbound traffic. Eastbound traffic will detour around the construction. The restrictions are due to Greater Cincinnati Water Works’ (GCWW) installation of two new water mains underneath Madison Road.
The lane restrictions and detour are expected to last about one month. Recognizing the amount of construction on Madison the past several years, the city and its contractors have created a plan to expedite this part of the construction project. Contractors will be working longer hours and seven days a week to meet this schedule.
“The Kennedy Connector project gives GCWW the opportunity to replace a 100 year old 16-inch water main and add a new 48-inch transmission water main,” said Jason DeLaet, Greater Cincinnati Water Works Supervising Engineer. “The benefits of the two new water mains include improved system reliability and increase water capacity.”
Greater Cincinnati Water Works and the City of Cincinnati are cognizant of the recent work on Madison that has affected traffic and businesses in the area the last several years. Both entities have pressed hard to have this detour in place for as little time as possible.
The Kennedy Connector project will build a new extension of Kennedy Avenue that will connect Duck Creek Road and Madison.
The new road will improve traffic flow and safety. It also will provide new opportunities for economic development. The project began this past spring and is expected to take nearly two years to complete.
