Sycamore Twp officials reach agreement on fire dept jobs
News

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19)- Sycamore Township trustees and firefighters have come to an agreement over extending fire and emergency services through 2014.

Both parties signed a resolution Friday afternoon saving 13 full time firefighter positions and cutting one administration position, the assistant fire chief.

"We're glad to come to a final resolution, this is a win-win deal for the fire department, not just for the trustees but also most importantly for the residents of Sycamore Township, " says board president Tom Weidman.

It has been a long battle since January when the board proposed contracting out fire services. In May, the board voted to cut all part time positions and 14 full time positions but the cuts never took place.

Firefighters have agreed to a salary cut ranging between eight and 16 percent, an average of about $5,000.

"It's not something I want to do but I know I have a job and I want to look at the positive aspect of it that I do have a job," says firefighter Eric Hardesty.

"Now we're going to move forward and hopefully put all of this behind us."
