Local attorney to lead UC Blue Ash alumni council

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - Josh Goode is the new chair for the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College Alumni Council.  He is an alumnus of the college and an established attorney who owns The Goode Firm, a law firm in downtown Cincinnati.

Josh was one of the youngest students ever at UC Blue Ash College.  He was home-schooled as a child, but he was so bright that by the time he was 10 years old his parents determined he needed more advanced teaching.  That’s when he enrolled at UC Blue Ash and began his path toward the University of Cincinnati College of Law and a very successful career.

AJC presents Lazarus Award to Outstanding Mariemont HS Volunteer

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - Mariemont High School junior Sarah Blatt-Herold was named a finalist for the American Jewish Committee’s 48th annual Simon Lazarus Jr. Human Relations Awards at Rockdale Temple.

Energetic and devoted volunteers from 36 high schools received awards for their work campaigning for good causes and organizing their classmates in compassionate service.

Sarah helped organize Kindness Retreats for district 5th graders and is a leader among her classmates as well as younger students. Sarah organized a book drive to benefit less privileged schools, sorted donated clothing and food for people abroad, and has planned a 5K race, handling all of the details with skill.  “Sarah is a motivated young lady who is making a difference and is committed to helping others,” said Amanda Leszczuk, Mariemont High School counselor. “Sarah is committed to good causes while growing aware of how lucky she is.”

Two local students honored for outstanding community service

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Two local students are being recognized for their volunteer services in  the community.

Jessica Seibold of Madeira and Brian Collette of Indian Hill were winners in the 48th annual Simon Lazarus Human Relations Awards. Jessica and Brian are both students at The Seven Hilll School in Madisonville.

Brian's achievement's include founding two other social enterprises: one to raise funds for programs to prevent teen suicide and depression and another to help match hard-to-place people with jobs.

Jessica Seibold’s service efforts include volunteering at a soup kitchen and a homeless shelter, she received the Youth Leadership Award from the United Way of Greater Cincinnati in a ceremony honoring community leaders on April 30.

Jessica also organizes a group of students who spend their lunchtime every Wednesday tutoring fifth and eighth graders at John P. Parker School in math and reading.

Sycamore senior given YMCA 2013 Character Award

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati recently honored Claudia and Chuck Multer of Hamilton for their 42 plus years of volunteer service to the Y competitive swim teams. 

Over 250 people gathered at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza on May 5 for the first annual SPLASH awards, recognizing all stars in and behind the scenes of the Ys competitive swim programs.

Charlie Fry, 18,  a senior at Sycamore High School, won the 2013 Character Award; he has been an eight-year-member of the Blue Ash YMCA swim team.  In his nomination for the award, Fry was recognized for showing a high level of commitment to his team, and helping others stay positive. 

Jonathan Rutter, 16, from the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA was named Swimmer of the Year for outstanding performances throughout the recent swim season.

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College has announced their new Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and new Director of Business Affairs. 

Dr. Greg Metz, of Wyoming, comes to UC Blue Ash from the University of Cincinnati main campus in Clifton after serving the past the past seven years as Assistant Director of the Center for First Year Experience and Learning Communities.  In his new role, he is the key point of contact for students, interacting with them daily to build on their academic success at UC Blue Ash. Dr. Metz is also leading efforts to weave the student affairs and academic affairs offerings of the college together seamlessly for students.

Terrace Park teenager creates social group for teens with diabetes

TERRACE PARK, OH (FOX19) - Mariemont High School freshman Hadley George recently created a social group for teens with Type One Diabetes. The group is called Type One Teens and the first meeting is Tuesday, April 9 at Stars Lane Bowling in Newport on the Levee from 6-8pm.

Hadley, who was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes at the age of 4, finds support in her friendships with those in a similar position. “Through ten years of experiences I have realized how critical it is to have friends with Type One; having friends who are going through similar experiences allows you to gain support and advice.”
