Seven Hills junior receiving United Way leadership award

INDIAN HILL, OH (FOX19) - A high school student is being given the Youth Leadership Award from the United Way of Greater Cincinnati.

Jessica Seibold, a junior at The Seven Hills School, earned the prestigious honor by regularly committing herself to community organizations while maintaining high academic standing at school and participating in varsity sports.

Annually, the United Way of Greater Cincinnati honors one high school student in the region who demonstrates leadership traits and a commitment to giving back to the community.  As part of the ceremony on April 30, Jessica will address the audience of nearly 1,000 invited guests and distinguished Cincinnati leaders.

Jesica's accomplishments include her volunteer work with Breakthrough Cincinnati and Our Daily Bread in Over-the-Rhine.

Blue Ash Police Sergent to become Lieutenant

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The City of Blue Ash’s Police Department announced earlier this week that Sergeant Joe Boyatt will be promoted to the role of Lieutenant effective Saturday, March 16.

Sergeant Boyatt started with the Blue Ash Police Department in March of 1989 as a patrol officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1999 and has overseen road patrol, investigations, and shift supervising, amongst other departmental tasks.

Sergeant Boyatt is the Police Department’s first A.L.I.C.E instructor, and has worked with multiple organizations and schools in the City with the program. He has also been an active member with the Hamilton County Police Association’s Ceremonial Honor Guard Unit for five years.

“I am looking forward to the challenges of this new position,” remarked Boyatt. “There are so many exciting changes happening in the Police Department right now, and I am very fortunate to be a part of those changes.”

UC Blue Ash Professor Earns a Fulbright Scholar Grant for Research

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - History Professor Timothy Forest is one of the few professors from the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College to earn a Fublright Scholar Grant.  He is using the opportunity to spend nine months living in France conducting research in French archives that will be the basis for new courses in the college’s European History program.

The Fulbright Scholar Program sends approximately 1,100 American scholars and professionals each year to approximately 125 countries, where they lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.  It is one of the most prestigious awards a college professor can earn.

The City of Blue Ash selects new police captain

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - More changes in the City of Blue Ash’s Police Department will soon take effect. The City announced on Wednesday that Lieutenant Richard K. Riley has been selected to take the role of Police Captain beginning March 16, succeeding Captain James Schaffer who retired March 1.

This announcement comes shortly after Lieutenant Paul Hartinger was named future Police Chief when current Chief Chris Wallace retires in May. Hartinger and Riley both became Lieutenants in 2007 and have worked closely together since. “I am excited to continue working with great individuals and embrace the synergy the department has created over the years,” said Hartinger.

Current Chief Chris Wallace is confident that the department will be able to effectively handle any endeavors that may come its way. “Lieutenants Hartinger and Riley complement each other, and their dynamics will create a very successful and efficient command staff,” revealed Wallace.

City of Montgomery seeking nominations for July 4th parade Grand Marshal

MONTGOMERY, OH (FOX19) - The City of Montgomery is looking for eligible residents to lead the Independence Day parade as Grand Marshal.

Nominees should be willing and able to carry out the functions of the Grand Marshal including:

  • be introduced and honored at the annual Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra’s Independence Day Concert on July 3
  • ride in a convertible leading the Independence Day Parade
  • present the parade awards at the July 4th Festival in Montgomery Park
  • be interviewed for a feature in the Montgomery Bulletin
  • be recognized at a Montgomery City Council meeting. 

 The nominated person must be 18 years of age or older.

Nominations will be reviewed by the Government Affairs Committee of City Council. They will select the Grand Marshall from the nominations received based on their community service, personal deeds and dedication to the community.

DEER PARK, OH (FOX19) - Amber Park is hosting a 100th birthday party and celebration for Gwendolyn Keith, a resident of Amber Park Cincinnati, a Brookdale Senior Living retirement community.

The event on Saturday, February 9 from 1pm - 4pm will feature dinner, dancing, and tributes to Keith by her family and friends.

The event will celebrate Keith's exciting life, positive outlook and all of her accomplishments.

Mariemont high school student to participate in National Writing Contest

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - Mariemont High School junior and Williams Meadow resident Holly Huber was nominated by the Mariemont High School English Department to represent the district in the National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing.

Each high school selects its own nominee, agreed upon by the entire English department. Achievement Awards in Writing is a school-based writing program established in 1957 to encourage high school students in their writing and to recognize publicly some of the best student writers in the nation.

“The nomination itself is an honor, and I’m excited to write these essays,” said Holly. “It was nice of the department to consider and choose me, and I will definitely ask for a lot of feedback on my submissions in order to present the best examples of my writing creativity and range.”
