Blue Ash YMCA Receives Inclusion Award

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The Blue Ash YMCA was recently honored by the Hamilton County Board of Developmental Disabilities with the J. Lajuana Miller Community Inclusion Award. The Award is presented to an organization that promotes inclusion of people with disabilities in activities or work.

Since 2006, the Blue Ash YMCA has collaborated with Jewish Vocational Services to enrich the lives of adults with developmental and cognitive disabilities whom JVS serves. Through the partnership, JVS employs a team that provides janitorial service for the YMCA and our Blue Ash branch offers them additional opportunities to be active, healthy and connected.

“As a partner in building strong minds and bodies, we are committed to supporting efforts that improve the quality of life for everyone in our Greater Cincinnati community,” said Alan Geans, YMCA district vice president.

15-year-old with bone cancer gets prom experience

ST. MARTIN, OH (FOX19) - A Loveland teen with bone cancer got a chance at going to prom Saturday night.

15-year-old Shelby Foster has bone cancer and may not make it to her junior or senior high school prom, so friends and family decided to throw Shelby her own prom at Chatfield College in St. Martin.

The non-profit group Team Chandler helped organize the event along with the student government at Chatfield. Local community members also pitched in by getting Shelby a stretch hummer limo for her and her friends to arrive in style.

Shelby was also able to spend the entire day getting ready for the prom at Kenwood Mall. She got her make up and nails done along with a bright colorful wig to go along with her dress.

Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired Has Valued Advocate In Norm Macon

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - At 79, Norm Macon knows a thing or two about reaching milestones. Sitting in a chair in his living room, a photo collage is to his right. It depicts many people who have given him many memories that evoke smiles. “That woman at the top. That’s my mother. She turned 104 years old,” he said.

A century is certainly a birthday worth celebrating. Norm is excited about another Centennial Celebration. This year marks the 100th anniversary for the Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, incorporated in 1911.

Norm was a board member of the Walnut Hills agency for over 30 years, having served on numerous committees.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Indian Hill resident Robert L. Walker is the newly elected chairman of TriHealth Board of Trustees. He has served as a TriHealth board member, including Finance Committee member, since 2005.

Walker is senior vice president and chief financial officer at Western & Southern Financial Group. His responsibilities include the actuarial, controller, tax and treasury functions.  He also held executive financial positions at National Data Corporation and Providian Corporation and is on the board of Computer Services, Inc.  His civic leadership roles include member of Playhouse in the Park executive committee and United Way former campaign cabinet member.

“Bob’s leadership combined with Western and Southern’s commitment to Cincinnati are definite assets to TriHealth in this era of health care financial reform and collaboration,” said John S. Prout, TriHealth president and chief executive officer.

Loveland student named 2011 Overture award winner in Instrumental Music

CINCINNATI, OH - The Cincinnati Arts Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2011 Overture Awards Scholarship Competition, held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Aronoff Center's Jarson-Kaplan Theater. The competition annually awards $2,500 scholarships to six area students for post-secondary education, with 18 runners-up each winning $500 scholarships.

Students are nominated by their schools to compete in one of six disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Theater, Visual Art or Vocal Music. The scholarship program is the largest of its kind in the United States and was developed to recognize, encourage and reward excellence in the arts among Tri-state students in grades 9-12.

Miami Township, Clermont County, OH (FOX19) - Pro Mach, a locally based company that provides product packaging equipment for industry has bought Shuttleworth, Inc, a Huntington, Indiana conveyor and product handling company that has facilities in Belgium and Malaysia.

The company will become a division of Pro Mach's End of Line Business Unit.

Shuttleworth serves customers who require gentle product handling solutions that reduce product damage and increase productivity and efficiency. The company serves a number of market segments including food and bakery, healthcare, automotive components, electronics, paper handling, and energy. Since its founding, Shuttleworth has installed over 15,000 applications worldwide.

Madeira student scores perfect 36 on ACT

Madeira student scores perfect 36 on ACT

MADEIRA, OH (FOX19) - A Madeira junior has reached for perfection and acheived it. 17-year old Richard Herndon received a perfect score of 36 on the ACT test. Herndon told FOX19 that he decided to take a test a second time after scoring a 35 on his first test, just one point shy of perfect. After pulling extra study sessions, Richard re-tested on December 9.

While the Madeira student may have lifted a great weight from his shoulder's, he's not out of the woods yet. Richard will take the SAT test on January 22.
