Mariemont resident named new principal at Moyer Elementary school

FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - The Moyer Elementary School Site-Based Decision-Making Council (SBDMC) voted unanimously to hire Matthew Haskamp as principal of Moyer Elementary School. Haskamp is presently the assistant principal at Highlands High School.

Haskamp earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northern Kentucky University and his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Cincinnati.

Haskamp taught physical education at Highlands High School before taking the position as assistant principal, where he has served for the last four years. Previously, Haskamp held positions as physical education teacher and also as guidance counselor at Covington Catholic High School.

Haskamp and his wife, Katie, live in Mariemont, Ohio, with their 3-year-old daughter, Julianne. Outside of work, he enjoys boating, fishing and camping.

Members of the Moyer Site-Based Decision-Making Council were very impressed with Haskamp.

MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) -  The first graduation ceremony at the High School for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders that opened in fall of 2011 at The Children’s Home of Cincinnati was held on June 7.

Bo Broadnax and his family gathered to celebrate as he begins the next chapter of his life. Broadnax is the first student to receive his diploma from the high school. He plans to attend the University of Cincinnati’s new TAP Program, (Transitions and Access Program) a non-degree option for students with intellectual disabilities to experience and succeed in college.

     Students and families gathered to recognize a fruitful year inside the high school building that was remodeled specifically to meet the sensory needs of students with autism spectrum disorders.

Auschwitz survivor from Kennedy Heights will be honored by state

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) – An 87-year-old local holocaust survivor and an R.N. from Fairfield are among 12 Ohioans being added to the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame this year.

On Tuesday, May 22, 2012, the Ohio Department of Aging will induct 12 older Ohioans into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame during an awards ceremony at the Ohio Statehouse Atrium. The inductees have lived lives full of accomplishments and service, and exemplify the state’s theme for Older Americans Month: “never too old to…”

“The individuals we are recognizing each have made a significant impact and lasting difference in the lives of their communities,” said Bonnie Kantor-Burman, director of the department. “We honor them for both their civic engagement and the many contributions they have made to promoting quality of life for others thought our great state.”

CINCINNATI (FOX19) – The Mass of Christian Burial for Rev. Anthony J. Muller was celebrated Tuesday by Most Rev. Dennis M. Schnurr, archbishop of Cincinnati, at St. Ann Church in Groesbeck.

Fr. Muller died last Wednesday morning, May 3, at age 69. Visitation was held the previous evening. Ft. Muller was buried at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Cemetery in Bridgetown.

Fr. Muller was born on September 8, 1942, in Cincinnati. He did his preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary in Mt. Washington and studied theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West in Norwood. He was ordained on May 25, 1968 at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral by Auxiliary Bishop Edward A. McCarthy.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati is looking for professionals who share its vision of nurturing the potential of young people, and promoting healthy living and social responsibility. Selected and sponsored by their companies to represent them, YMCA Achievers who will be honored at the 2012 Salute to YMCA Black & Latino Achievers Gala will also commit to volunteering a year to inspire students toward paths of success. Nomination sponsorships are being accepted through June 1, 2012.

YMCA Camp Ernst Announces Major Renovations

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Since 1928, thousands of youth from throughout the region and around the world come to the beautiful, sprawling, park-like setting of YMCA Camp Ernst where they strengthen their skills and make diverse friendships in an environment that stresses positive character values.  This summer, on their way to check-in, campers will see an all new Welcome and Health Center under construction. Funded with a lead gift from the Schiff Foundation, the new Center is part of the first phase of what is the camp’s first major multi-million dollar renovation since the 1970s.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

The Hamilton County Park District Rangers have a new Ranger Chief. Following the retirement of Chief Steve Newsom, who spent after 32 years with the Rangers, Ed Butler will take over duties as Chief at the end of March.

Butler has been a member of the Kenton County, Kentucky Police Department since 1991 and has served as its Police Chief since 2006.

While at Kenton County he has also served as its Public Relations Officer, Police Officer/Narcotics Detective, Sergeant and Captain.  He holds a Bachelors of Science degree from Northern Kentucky University, a Masters of Business Administration from Xavier University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.  Ed is a native of western Hamilton County and an Elder High School graduate.
