CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Lamont Taylor, Human Resources Manager for Frisch’s Restaurants Inc., was named to the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority’s board of trustees on March 20.   

In his role at Frisch’s Restaurants Inc., Taylor is responsible for employee relations and non-exempt recruitment for Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. He had previously worked for Federal Express and the Greater Cincinnati Urban League.

Funeral services for beloved retired fire chief

MARIEMONT,OH (FOX19) - A celebration of life for retired Chief Jack Phifer will take place Thursday, March 22,  beginning with a funeral procession at 11:00 a.m.

The funeral procession will proceed through Madeira and Indian Hill past Jack’s old firehouses. The route will continue on Miami Road into Mariemont past Station 67 (Village of Mariemont Municipal Building).

The procession will arrive at the Mariemont Community Church around noon, which is where the visitation and funeral services for Chief Phifer will be held.

Mariemont Community Church is located at 3908 Plainville Road.

Residents wishing to pay their respects along the route of the procession may do so at the following locations:   For Madeira-Indian Hill Residents, along Miami between Euclid and Shawnee Run.

For the Village of Mariemont Residents, Wooster Pike between Miami and Plainville Road.

Myrna Ethridge's Philanthropy Has Very Personal Connection

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Myrna Ethridge is no stranger to philanthropy. She is a long time board member of the Winton Hills Medical Center Board and the YMCA Black & Latino Achievers Program, a program that honored her with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

Now the retiree of United Parcel Service is raising money for a very personal cause – the Caring Voice Coalition, Inc. In 2000, Ethridge was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, a life threatening disease that requires expensive medication she wouldn’t be able to afford without a grant from the Coalition.

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - Jessica Baldwin, the lead after-school teacher at Mariemont Elementary School, recently earned the 2012 Excellence in Education award from Champions a leading provider of before- and after-school extended day learning programs.

Baldwin's award recognizes his/her dedication to the Cincinnati community through her work at the Mariemont Champions program, and her commitment to helping educate students in her care.

Mount Lookout student's culinary team wins Ohio title, heads to regional event

CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - Fresh from a winning performance in the recent Ohio Cookoff competition, a student team from the Midwest Culinary Institute will head to Niagara Falls next month to compete at the 2012 American Culinary Federation’s Northeast Regional Conference.

During the Ohio Cookoff event held last month, the Cincinnati State team garnered a gold medal in the skills competition and a silver medal in the cooking competition, winning an overall national silver medal and the right to represent the state of Ohio at the ACF Regional Conference. There they will compete for the right to represent the Northeast Region for the national title at the ACF national convention, which will be held this July in Orlando.

The team is led by Master Chef John Kinsella and coached by MCI instructors George Zappas, Michael VanFleet, and Laura Horn.

Madeira business man announces campaign for Congress

MADEIRA, OH (FOX19) - Madeira businessman David Krikorian officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Ohio's 2nd District on Wednesday.

Krikorian released a video to make the announcement, just one week before the primary election. With his motto as "The Jobs Candidate", Krikorian emphasized his experience as a small business owner and job creator in Southern Ohio.

"I'm not a politician or a Wall Street CEO. I'm a Main Street entrepreneur who's created businesses from the ground up." Krikorian said "I have created real American jobs, making real products to stimulate our economy".

Krikorian is running for the Democratic nomination to unseat GOP incumbent Jean Schmidt. In addition to job creation, Krikorian will focus on reducing high energy costs by increasing the use of natural gas in Ohio. He also plans to reduce corruption in government by creating term limits and enforcing the STOCK act.

Award-winning author/illustrator visits elementary students

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Elementary students in Sycamore Community Schools will learn about the writing process, journal keeping, editing and illustration creation when Grace Lin, an award-winning author and illustrator, visits the district March 19-22.

Lin will visit each of the district’s four elementary schools to share with students how she generates story ideas and what inspires her, as well as the technical aspects of the publishing process.  Lin, who is well-known for her books about the Asian-American experience, received a Newberry Honor for “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon”.  Also a New York Times bestseller, Lin’s first early reader, “Ling and Ting”, received the Theodor Geisel Honor, an award given annually to the author and illustrator of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers.  The award recognized Lin for her literary and artistic achievements that demonstrate creativity and engage children in reading.
