Pleasant Ridge Branch, Main Library offering music shows July 30 and Aug. 4

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The World Choir Games and Bunbury Music Festival may be over, but you can still enjoy good music during two programs offered by the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

The family musical group Muddy River Consort will perform at the Pleasant Ridge Branch Library, 6233 Montgomery Road, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 30.

David Fishlock, father, is the head percussionist of the Cincinnati Pops and Symphony orchestras and mother Catherine is an opera singer. They and their children, 15-year-old Clara, 13-year-old Eleanor, 10-year-old Gabriel and 8-year-old Michael, will be performing American classical and folk music with flute, violin, voice and percussion.   

Then at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, the Comet Bluegrass All Stars will be performing at the Main Library, 800 Vine Street, in the Reading Garden Lounge.

Community meeting on Oakley traffic study

OAKLEY, OH (FOX19) - Members of the Oakley Community Council will present Phase One of the Oakley Traffic study on Monday.

The public is invited to hear the presentation by Craig Rozen and Tom Frey beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Oakley Comminty Center next to biggs.

A number of residents have been meeting with city engineers to review possible solutions for a number of high traffic areas within Oakley. The presentation review proposals for area such as Edwards and Madison, Edwards and Marketbriet, and Madison and Ridge.

All residents are welcome to attend and to provide input. A discussion will follow the presentation.

Trail to connect Armleder Park and Lunken trails opens Thursday

CINCINNATI (FOX19) – A major step in the development of hiking and biking trails on the east side happens Thursday with the official opening and ribbon cutting for a new 1.1 mile paved trail that connects the Otto Armleder Memorial Park 1.9 mile trail in Linwood to the 5 mile Lunken Field loop in Linwood and the East End.

A ceremony is being held at noon on Thursday (June 14) at the Otto Armleder Memorial Park and Recreation Complex 5057 Wooster Pike, Cincinnati, OH.

Speakers include Jack Sutton, Executive Director of the Hamilton County Park District, Wendell Young, Cincinnati Councilmember, Christopher Bigham, Director of Recreation for the CRC, and Steve Schuckman, Superintendent for the Cincinnati Park Board.

Documentary on Ault Park nominated for regional Emmy

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - CET’s local production, Ault Park: Emerald in the Crown has been nominated for a regional Emmy Award in the historical documentary category. Nominations were announced Tuesday, June 12, by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

In this half-hour program, CET takes viewers through the history of Ault Park. The park was donated to Cincinnati by Levi Addison Ault, who led the first Board of Park Commissioners and developed a plan for a city-wide park system. This special park is marked by grand architecture, an iconic pavilion, public art, breathtaking landscapes and a plethora of community events.

You could be in the Art Parade, if you're not a politician

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Kinetic art, giant puppets, dogs in costume, themed floats, decorated bikes, samba drums, and a gargantuan tarantula are already expected at the Art Parade in Pleasant Ridge/Kennedy Heights on Saturday, August 27.

The parade will start at 11AM and travel along Montgomery Road from Kincaid to Kennedy. Immediately following, all are invited to a free Ice Cream Social at Kennedy Heights Arts Center with ice cream donated by United Dairy Farmers and live music.

Everyone, or almost everyone, is invited to participate. Decorate a bike! Dress your dog in a costume! Decorate a car or create a float! Beat a drum, play music or carry a banner! Show your creativity in any way you wish.  Individuals, artists, groups, neighbors, businesses and organizations are encouraged to take part.

Political candidates are not invited.

All entries must be registered by August 19, 2011. There are no entry fees.
