Grand opening Monday for new Japanese restaurant in Kenwood

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Restaurateurs Jerry and Min Cheung will host a grand opening for their new Arirang Japanese Bistro on Monday.

The Cheungs have been in the restaurant industry for 25 years and they bring their experience to bear in the sleek styling of their independently owned bistro.  A slate waterfall landing into a koi pond serves as the entrance, opening up into two sections: a contemporary Hibachi style dining room and the beautifully lit main dining room, which leads into the adjoining bar and sushi bar.

At the back is a traditional Tatami room that can be reserved for intimate parties of up to 11 people and a patio with a fireplace for seasonal outdoor seating.

Hamilton County food inspection fees being reduced

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Hamilton County Public Health cutting licensing fees for all food service and retail food operations by 12 per cent, effective February 1, 2012.

Technology and realignment have driven the cost savings, according to Hamilton County Health Commissioner, Tim Ingram.  “We have incorporated considerable new technology in our inspection and reporting processes,” Ingram says.  “Electronic reporting and data collection speed up the process and provide the public with information on our findings much more quickly.  Our establishments get a reduced fee structure while the public gets faster access to our reports through our website.”

Marx Hot Bagels lauded in Ohio Magazine

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - John Marx, a.k.a. The Bagel Man has claimed it for years; now Ohio Magazine has made it official.  Marx Hot Bagels, 9701 Kenwood Road, in Blue Ash, has been named Best in Ohio according to the January, 2012 edition of Ohio Magazine.

Although he’s not a native of Manhattan, the magazine states, John Marx, owner of Marx Hot Bagels in Blue Ash, created a New York City style haven in the suburbs of Cincinnati.

“His kosher restaurant, which operates like an East Coast deli – complete with a quirky décor and a blunt staff – specializes in some 40 varieties, baked fresh daily,” according to the magazine.  The flavors, the magazine continues, range from chocolate chip to combo, which pairs perfectly with another Marx favorite, the tuna salad.

Precinct Restaurant (but not bar) closing for renovation Saturday

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Precinct, Cincinnati’s first steakhouse and oldest fine dining restaurant, will close Saturday night January 14th for an unspecified period of time.

“We need to expand our kitchen in order to facilitate service to our new addition," said Jeff Ruby. "We are bringing in a new Chef and we have decided it was time for a management change as well.”

The new GM is Brandon Ruby, son of Jeff Ruby.

"After ten years of valeting, serving, training and managing (while simultaneously earning a degree from Midwest Culinary Institute) he is now being given the opportunity to take over my first baby,” said Jeff Ruby.

The East End landmark's new bar will remain open for beverage service during the renovation and the Private Party room will not be affected.

Ruby is also remodeling the Precinct’s lobby, dining rooms, building and grounds. In addition, a turn-of-the-century style elevator will be another new accommodation.
