Member of Sycamore Board of Education being honored during annual golf outing

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The Sycamore Athletic Boosters will host their annual Jim Walter Memorial Golf Outing at Blue Ash Golf Course, 4040 Cooper Road.  The event on May 10 supports athletics in Sycamore Community Schools.

“The Sycamore Athletic Boosters have provided nearly $1 million toward the advancement and success of Sycamore sports in the last decade and the annual golf outing is a big part of that.  This year we have an added commitment above and beyond our usual projects to provide $225,000 to help fund a much-needed, all-weather, multi-purpose turf field at Sycamore High School,” said Betty Berling, a member of the Sycamore Athletic Boosters.

Open to the public, tickets to the golf outing are $150 and include one 18-hole round of golf, golf cart, snacks, beverages, lunch and a dinner at the Cooper Creek Event Center.  Tee times are available at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Mariemont High School to hire new assistant principal

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - Trevor Block will be recommended to the Mariemont Board of Education as the new assistant principal of Mariemont High School at the May 21 board meeting.

Mr. Block is currently the interim principal at Bishop Fenwick High School in Franklin, Ohio, and has over ten years experience working in various teaching and administrative positions in multiple school districts

"I am very excited about serving the Mariemont City Schools’ community as the next high school assistant principal and building upon the tradition of excellence for which this school district is known,” said Trevor Block.

Kathy Ryan, who has been interim assistant principal since Tom Crosby’s retirement in January, will return to Wyoming City Schools to begin facilities management for the renovation of and addition to their middle school building, a commitment she made last year.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Taft Museum of Art’s annual Artists Reaching Classrooms (ARC) exhibition is on display through May 16 in the atrium of the Main Library. The exhibit showcases art, including painting, photography, digital design and ceramics, created by students from 12 area high schools.

Each work is accompanied by an artist’s statement, providing an explanation of the student’s process and intent. ARC is a program offered by the Taft Museum of Art that immerses high school art students in Cincinnati’s visual arts community and exposes them to art careers and professionals. Scholarships are being awarded Wednesday, May 1, during a 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. reception at the Main Library.

Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance grants $200,000 to Mariemont City School District

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - Andy Holzhauser and Chris Meyer from the Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance and Brad Motz from Motz Engineering presented a check for $200,000 to the Mariemont Board of Education at the April board meeting.

These were great partners during the district's recent facilities project, in which it constructed three new or renovated school buildings. This money helped fund energy-efficient measures, such as lighting, HVAC systems and double-paned windows in the new school buildings.

Mariemont City Schools appoints new Superintendent

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - The Mariemont Board of Education unanimously appointed Steven Estepp as the district’s next superintendent at its April 23 meeting. Currently Mr. Estepp serves as executive director of K-12 curriculum and instruction with Hilliard City Schools in the Columbus area.

“There are many reasons why the Board believes that Mr. Estepp is the perfect person to lead our district, and most importantly, to lead our students and academic program well in to the future,” said Peggy S. Braun, board president. “He has been extremely successful in advancing student achievement, most recently leading the 15,500 student population at Hilliard City Schools to the state’s highest ranking for student academic growth. He is innovative, engaging and passionate about open communication and meaningful collaboration.”

UC Blue Ash College announces assistant dean and director

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College has announced their new Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and new Director of Business Affairs. 

Dr. Greg Metz, of Wyoming, comes to UC Blue Ash from the University of Cincinnati main campus in Clifton after serving the past the past seven years as Assistant Director of the Center for First Year Experience and Learning Communities.  In his new role, he is the key point of contact for students, interacting with them daily to build on their academic success at UC Blue Ash. Dr. Metz is also leading efforts to weave the student affairs and academic affairs offerings of the college together seamlessly for students.
