Sycamore adds up ways to make "Count Week" count

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - Sycamore Schools are reminding parents on how to avoid unexcused absences for their kids with "Count Week" coming up soon.

Regular school attendance is an important part of making sure each student receives the most out of his or her education.  Studies show that attendance directly impacts academic achievement.  It also impacts how much funding schools receive from the state.  The state distributes its share of school funding based on student enrollment figures reported during the first full week of October (Oct.

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19)-  Sycamore Community Schools are inviting senior citizens to attend all school events for free as a guest of the district.  

Residents of the Sycamore district who are 62-years of age or older may obtain a Gold Card in recognition of their many years of support toward Sycamore schools.  Senior citizens can get their Gold Card, which is good for any district-sponsored event including concerts, plays and athletic events, at the Sycamore Board of Education, 4881 Cooper Road.

Support group sponsors coffee for elementary parents

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - John McInerney, Sycamore’s K-2 gifted/enrichment intervention specialist, will host a coffee on Sept. 21 to discuss the role he plays in elementary classrooms.  

The event is sponsored by Sycamore GEAR (Gifted Education, Advocacy and Resources), a support and advocacy group for gifted education that provides members with regular updates on local, state and federal programs and educational initiatives.  

“Coffee with Mr. Mac” will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Symmes Elementary School, 11820 Enyart Road.

Sycamore high school celebrates Homecoming

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Sycamore High School students, staff and alumni will decorate the school, and themselves, in green and gold the week of September 19 in celebration of Homecoming. 

The theme for the Aviators’ Homecoming is “Welcome to the Jungle”.

A complete schedule of events is listed below.

Seventeen Sycamore students recognized as top one percent of nation's high school students

Seventeen Sycamore students recognized as top one percent of nation's high school students

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Sycamore High School announced this week that the National Merit Scholarship Corporation named 17 Sycamore High School seniors as semifinalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program, an honor less than one percent of the country’s high school students achieve.  

The students are Erik Bao, Benjamin Casuto, Cory Chisholm, Brendan Corcoran, Maulik Desai, Jane Finocharo, Christina Gao, Victor Hu, Jireh Kang, Shawn Krishnan, Vibhor Kumar, Joshua Lee, Nicholas Lennon, Artur Meller, Thomas Norris, Olivia Smith and Anirudha Vaddadi.

Sycamore students entered the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program as juniors, along with 1.5 million students throughout the country, by taking the 2010 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which determines if program entrants meet the program’s rigorous requirements.  Not only did all 17 students meet the requirements, they were among the highest scoring entrants

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - All Saints School in Cincinnati has been named a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced on Thursday. The school will be honored at a conference and awards ceremony on November 14 and 15 in Washington, D.C.

LOVELAND, OH (FOX19) - Children's Meeting House Montessori School says in today's multicultural and interconnected world, peace needs to be more than just a word, it needs to be put into action  For the 150 students at CMH in Loveland, peace has been a part of their school year from day one.  Focused on the Montessori principles of grace and courtesy as well as respect, the students practice daily the care of their learning community, their community members and themselves. 

On Wednesday, September 21, at 11:00 am, the CMH students, 3 through 12 year of age, joined by parents will gather to celebrate International Peace Day by participating in The Pinwheels for Peace Program.   Each student will make an individualized pinwheel as a symbol of their role in creating a peaceful world.
