Four Sycamore elementary artists featured at Statehouse

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - As part of a month long celebration of the arts and arts education, the artwork of four Montgomery Elementary students has been selected for the 2013 Statehouse Student Exhibition, a 40-piece exhibition that features art by students in Ohio’s public schools.

Anekah Kelley, third-grade; Nathan Kissela, fourth-grade; Kiera LeLoup, second- grade; and Keegan Veraldo, fourth-grade will have their art on display from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on April 1-27 at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.  Taught by Martha Carroll, art teacher at Montgomery Elementary and local PR/advocacy chair for the Ohio Art Education Association, the students will also be recognized during a closing reception at noon on April 27 at the Statehouse.\

Forensic students spoke to former FBI Director at Town Hall Lecture

MONTGOMERY, OH (FOX19) - Local forensic Students from Sycamore High School had the opportunity to talk with Former FBI Director Louis Freeh before his Town Hall Lecture at Montgomery Assembly of God this week.

The class was invited to attend the Lecture hosted by the Montgomery Woman's Club who has operated the Town Hall Lecture Series for 50 years. After his lecture, Mr. Freeh answered audience questions with a few of his answers geared to the forensic side of investigation.

The students found his speech informative and were very grateful for the opportunity given to them to actually meet the Former Director.

UC Blue Ash Professor Earns a Fulbright Scholar Grant for Research

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - History Professor Timothy Forest is one of the few professors from the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College to earn a Fublright Scholar Grant.  He is using the opportunity to spend nine months living in France conducting research in French archives that will be the basis for new courses in the college’s European History program.

The Fulbright Scholar Program sends approximately 1,100 American scholars and professionals each year to approximately 125 countries, where they lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.  It is one of the most prestigious awards a college professor can earn.

The Mariemont Board of Education begins superintendent search

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - The Mariemont Board of Education launched its search this week for the next superintendent of schools for the City School District.

The goal of the Board is to announce the next superintendent by mid May. To assist with the search the district has retained the services of Effron & Associates, who also assisted the board in the search for current superintendent Paul Imhoff over six years ago.

“We’re seeking a leader that can bring the educational expertise we need to continue our strong academic vision as well as bring to us strategies and programs that will meet the current and future educational needs of our students,” said Peggy Braun, president of the Board of Education. “We are fortunate to have a strong link between the schools and our four communities, and we are looking for someone that understands how important that is to all of us.”

Seven Sycamore students head to state math competition

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Ten students from Sycamore Junior High Schools’ Math Club participated in the annual Cincinnati Chapter MathCounts Competition last month at the University of Cincinnati.

Seven of those students scored high enough during the chapter competition to secure a trip to the state competition on Saturday, March 9 at Columbus State Community College.

Sycamore Junior High’s Math Club consists of approximately 35 students.  In order to be selected to participate in the Cincinnati Chapter MathCounts competition, students must pass a series of tests that are administered in January.  Once at the chapter event, more than 300 students from 42 Cincinnati schools vie for top honors in the annual event that tests students’ mathematic skills in a competitive environment.

Cincinnati Waldorf School purchases historic building in Mariemont

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - The old Dale Park School in Mariemont has been purcahsed by an independent Cincinnati school institution that offers a classic Waldorf education.

The Cincinnati Waldorf School will begin restoration and renovation on the building on Chestnut Street immediately and will open for classes this August, 2013.

Previously the Dale Park School, it is one of the remaining historic buildings in the village.

The Cincinnati Waldorf School has been leasing the former Little Flower School building located in Mount Airy for the last five years.
