Seven Sycamore students head to state math competition

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Ten students from Sycamore Junior High Schools’ Math Club participated in the annual Cincinnati Chapter MathCounts Competition last month at the University of Cincinnati.

Seven of those students scored high enough during the chapter competition to secure a trip to the state competition on Saturday, March 9 at Columbus State Community College.

Sycamore Junior High’s Math Club consists of approximately 35 students.  In order to be selected to participate in the Cincinnati Chapter MathCounts competition, students must pass a series of tests that are administered in January.  Once at the chapter event, more than 300 students from 42 Cincinnati schools vie for top honors in the annual event that tests students’ mathematic skills in a competitive environment.

Cincinnati Waldorf School purchases historic building in Mariemont

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - The old Dale Park School in Mariemont has been purcahsed by an independent Cincinnati school institution that offers a classic Waldorf education.

The Cincinnati Waldorf School will begin restoration and renovation on the building on Chestnut Street immediately and will open for classes this August, 2013.

Previously the Dale Park School, it is one of the remaining historic buildings in the village.

The Cincinnati Waldorf School has been leasing the former Little Flower School building located in Mount Airy for the last five years.

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College will host its Spring Open House for prospective students on Wednesday, March 13.

The event begins with refreshments at 6:30 p.m. and a presentation on UC Blue Ash College at 7:00 pm. It will be held in Muntz Hall on the college campus (9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash, Ohio 45236).

All prospective students and their parents are invited to attend and learn more about the academic programs, meet faculty, staff and students, receive a tour of the campus, and gather information on financial aid options.  Students who apply to UC Blue Ash during the open house will receive $50 off their application fee.

Carnival to benefit underpriviledged families at John P. Parker

MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19)  - Nightingales Home Health Agency is partnering with In Good Hands Medical Transportation to host a carnival for John P. Parker Elementary on March 17. There will be games, food, prizes and more at the carnival.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the underpriviledged families of John P. Parker.

John P. Parker School is located on Anderson Place in Madisonville.

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - The Mariemont High School boys’ lacrosse team has named their 2013 captains – seniors Griffin Rolander, Erik Flynn, Tate DeCamp and junior Macko Saffin.  These four young men were selected by team members and the coaching staff, and they will provide strong leadership as Mariemont enters its 12th season.

"We hold our captains to a higher standard both on and off the field, and there is no doubt that these boys have what it takes to get the job done," said Steve Peterson, varsity head coach.  "Part of being a good captain is being a good teammate; the kind that makes everyone around them better as we strive to win state."

Sycamore Community Schools joins Twitter

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Sycamore Community Schools is expanding its online presence with the launch of a district Twitter account. The @SycamoreSchools Twitter feed will add to the district’s already established virtual community, which includes a YouTube channel, Flickr account and Facebook page.

“While the district will continue to communicate in traditional ways and through our website, online tools like Twitter allow us to be progressive as we communicate with our shareholders,” said Erika Daggett, chief information officer.
