To help fund locker room remodel; Moeller raffling off car

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A raffle is being held at Moeller high school to help benefit their school locker room project completion.

The winner of the school raffle will choose between a 2013 Chevy Cruze, provided by McCluskey Chevrolet, or $10,000 in cash. Tickets are $100 each, and only 500 tickets will be sold. The winning ticket will be drawn at the Moeller Sports Stag on March 14.

The proceeds from the raffle will help complete the renovation of Moeller’s original locker room. Two years ago, Moeller’s administration joined with the school’s football booster’s organization (M-FAN) to begin raising funds to update the 50-year-old year space. “We’ve raised close to $500,000 in cash and gifts-in-kind,” said Moeller Athletic Development Director Mark Doran. “Construction began during the summer and was completed in mid-October.”

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - Six Mariemont City School staff members presented three separate sessions at the 2013 Ohio Educational Technology Conference in Columbus, Ohio.

“Laptops in the classroom have been a staple of instruction at Mariemont City Schools for over a decade, but following the lead of our students, we have piloted, and then expanded, an affordable model that has all students in grades 2-12 engaged with technology every day,” said Paul Imhoff.

Each session was well attended, with over 6,000 people attending the conference for its 15th anniversary. The goal of all eTech sessions was to bring attendees together to teach and learn about new ways to equip, engage and empower learners and educators across the state.

Sycamore high school to serve songs and syrup

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The Sycamore Band and Orchestra Boosters will host the 51st annual Pancake Day at Sycamore High School, 7400 Cornell Road.

The day of sangs and syrup is scheduled for Saturday, March 2 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Tickets are $6 and include pancakes, sausage, beverages and second helpings of pancakes.  Tickets can be purchased from any band or orchestra student or at Sycamore High School the day of the event.

Musical entertainment will also be provided by district bands and orchestras and the public is invited to listen to the performances for free.

Last year, the Boosters cooked and served more than 170 gallons of pancake batter; 26 gallons of syrup; 1,800 cups of coffee; 2,000 cartons of milk; and 300 pounds of sausage to more than 2,200 people.

UC Blue Ash hosts presentation on the Ohio Innocence Project

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College will host an important event titled Truth and Eyewitnesses: The Ohio Innocence Project as part of the Community Conversations lecture series.

The event is free and open to the public, it will be held on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00 pm in the Muntz Auditorium on the UC Blue Ash College campus (9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash, OH  45236).

Truth and Eyewitnesses will feature a presentation by Mark Godsey, a professor in the UC College of Law, director of the Rosenthal Institute for Justice, and a nationally recognized authority on the wrongful conviction of the innocent.  Roger Dean Gillespie will also take part in the event.  He spent 20 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted for rape in 1988.

Meeting for Mariemont City Schools' Community Task Force committees

MARIEMONT, OH (FOX19) - The kick-off meeting for Mariemont City Schools' Community Task Force committees in on Wednesday, February 6. The meeting is at 7pm in C20 at the high school.

Peggy Braun, Board of Education president, and Paul Imhoff, superintendent, will begin the meeting with introductions and a general briefing of the committees, their goals and their members, which are chaired by school administrators and include both faculty and community members.

There are always items within a school district that generate questions and Mariemont City Schools is bringing people together to find answers. Each committee will be focused on one key area:  Valedictorian/Salutatorian, Grading Scale, Junior High Credit and Elementary Standards-Based Report Cards.

The committees will present their recommendations to Paul on Monday, March 18 at 7pm.

National Expert on Education to speak at The Seven Hills School

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Seven Hills School will welcome nationally recognized education expert Ann Anzalone to campus on Thursday, February 28 at 7 p.m. as part of the school’s Creating Conversations Speaker Series for parents. The event is free and is open to the public.

Anzalone is a nationally acclaimed expert on learning styles, educational plans and academic performance. She will share practical tips for helping children and teens succeed in school and at home. The program will offer information for parents with children in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12.

BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - The Sycamore Athletic Boosters will host their annual social on Saturday, February 23 from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. in the clubhouse at the Cooper Creek Golf Club in Blue Ash.

During the social, Paula Hayden , Lady Aves varsity basketball coach, will be honored for her contributions to Sycamore athletics.  Hayden, who has been the varsity basketball coach for 21 years, has been named "Coach of the Year" by the Greater Miami Conference four times. In 2012, she led the team to becoming city and district champions and was inducted into the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame.

The event will also include live music, a full bar, a silent auction and a raffle for a one-week stay at a resort home in the Smoky Mountains.
