Summerfair poster unveiled Sunday; artist is three-time winner

NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - When Brent Beck won his first Summerfair Poster Contest in 2000, he was new to town and had never even been to the festival.

On Sunday, his third winning poster will be unveiled.

Summerfair holds a contest each year for artists to design the winning poster.  The Summerfair poster design competition is in its 35th year, making it one of Greater Cincinnati’s oldest and most respected community-wide art competitions. Beck has won the competition on three different occasions, (2000, 2002 and 2012) meaning he has impressed three different juries of judges over the years, a first in Summerfair history.

NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Before the critically acclaimed novels Await Your Reply and You Remind Me of Me, Ohio author Dan Chaon made a name for himself as a writer of short stories.  Now, in Stay Awake, Chaon returns to that form for the first time since his Among the Missing, a finalist for the National Book Award.

On Thursday night, Chaon (pronounced "Shawn") will make an evening appearance at Joseph Beth Booksellers, discussing and signing the new book at 7:00 p.m.

In his haunting, suspenseful stories, the lost, fragile, searching characters wander between ordinary life and a psychological shadowland.

Hamilton County food inspection fees being reduced

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Hamilton County Public Health cutting licensing fees for all food service and retail food operations by 12 per cent, effective February 1, 2012.

Technology and realignment have driven the cost savings, according to Hamilton County Health Commissioner, Tim Ingram.  “We have incorporated considerable new technology in our inspection and reporting processes,” Ingram says.  “Electronic reporting and data collection speed up the process and provide the public with information on our findings much more quickly.  Our establishments get a reduced fee structure while the public gets faster access to our reports through our website.”
